About Us

At Blue Harmony, we are an environmental nonprofit driven by a shared commitment ocean conservation, to protecting the health of our oceans and preserving marine ecosystems for future generations. In 2022, two generations of the Witt and Guinosso families and their lifelong best friend, Tom Hansch, came together to establish Blue Harmony, a California-based non-profit organization. Blue Harmony was born out of a personal connection to the sea and the urgent need to address the growing threats posed by ocean climate change, plastic pollution, overfishing, and habitat destruction.

Join us in our mission to protect the blue heart of our planet.

Together, we can create a lasting legacy of healthy oceans for generations to come.

Who Is Blue Harmony?

Blue Harmony was co-founded by Hillard Witt, Pete Guinosso, and Tom Hansch, united by a shared love for the ocean and a commitment to its preservation. Their passion for marine conservation stems from a lifetime of connection to the sea, from family traditions like abalone diving to exploring the wonders of coastal ecosystems.

As a 501(c)(3) environmental nonprofit organization, Blue Harmony addresses critical challenges facing our oceans, including plastic pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss. By inspiring collective action through education, collaboration, and sustainable practices, the organization strives to restore balance to marine environments and protect them for future generations.

Why Blue Harmony℠ Was Started

The catalyst for Blue Harmony’s mission was the loss of a cherished family tradition: abalone diving in California. The collapse of kelp forests due to climate change underscored the urgent need to protect our marine ecosystems. Recognizing this, Pete, Hillard, and Tom founded Blue Harmony to inspire individuals and communities to take action. Their vision is simple yet profound: a thriving ocean that sustains biodiversity and supports the well-being of our planet.

Through education, collaboration, and innovation, Blue Harmony seeks to create a harmonious relationship between humanity and the sea, ensuring that the beauty and vitality of our oceans endure for generations to come.

Proud Partners with Best Sanitizers

Best Sanitizers is the main funder of Blue Harmony’s efforts in ocean conservation. Their unwavering commitment to sustainability and the environment has made a significant impact on our ability to carry out crucial conservation work. Thanks to Best Sanitizers’ generous support, we are able to continue our mission to protect and restore ocean health, raise awareness about marine pollution, and create a sustainable future for our oceans.

Together, we are making waves for positive change, and we are deeply grateful for their partnership in this vital cause.

A Legacy of Conservation

At its heart, Blue Harmony is an environmental nonprofit rooted in a deep respect for family traditions and the natural world. Hillard’s upbringing, harvesting abalone with his family, and Pete’s transformative experience diving in Northern California shaped their commitment to ocean conservation. These personal stories reflect the organization’s ethos: that honoring our connection to the ocean is essential to preserving it.

As an environmental nonprofit, Blue Harmony’s work goes beyond advocacy; it embodies a collective responsibility to address climate change, overfishing, and pollution. By fostering partnerships and leading impactful initiatives, the organization strives to safeguard marine ecosystems and the communities they sustain.

Understanding SB54 - The Extended Producer Responsibility Act

The SB54 Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Act aims to tackle plastic pollution by holding producers accountable for the full life cycle of their products, from creation to disposal. This groundbreaking law is designed to reduce waste and increase recycling efforts across California. At Blue Harmony, we are committed to educating and raising awareness about SB54‘s potential to protect our oceans and environment.

The Ocean Is Dying, and We Need Your Help

The reality is stark: our oceans are facing unprecedented challenges that threaten their health and the vibrant ecosystems they support. From climate change and rising temperatures to plastic pollution and habitat destruction, the signs of distress are all around us. Coral reefs are bleaching, marine life is declining, and the delicate balance of our ocean ecosystems is at risk. As stewards of the sea, we cannot remain silent in the face of this crisis.

As an environmental nonprofit, Blue Harmony believes it’s not too late to turn the tide. Every action counts, and we must come together to address the urgent threats facing our oceans. By raising awareness, advocating for sustainable practices, and participating in conservation efforts, we can create a positive impact and restore the health of our marine environments.

We need your help to make a difference. Join us in our mission to protect and restore ocean health. Here are some ways you can get involved:

Adopt simple practices like using a reusable water bottle or utensils instead of single-use plastic ones.

Support businesses that prioritize sustainability.

Donate to foundations like Blue Harmony that focus on ocean health.

Volunteer for trash pickups.

Connect with your community to discuss strategies for ocean conservation.
